Resthaven Memorial Gardens

Cemetery in Mattoon, Illinois

Resthaven Memorial Gardens was estblished in 1936. The current owners are Tom, Mark and Jim Battista, who operate under the Memorial Traditions name. The cemetery’s first owner B.T. Atkins, wanted it to be called a memorial garden, meaning all markers would be flat rather than raised. Because of local demand, that policy changed several years ago, and a new section was opened that is devoted to upright markers. An east entrance was added in the 1960s when Interstate 57 came through. Famous major league baseball player for the California Angels, Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, and other MLB teams, Marty Pattin, is buried here.
